Shell to Shore presents: the SHELLCAST
Shell to Shore is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation based in Athens, GA. Our organization collects oyster shells from restaurants, festivals, and events across the state of Georgia and recycles them on the Georgia coast, enabling natural solutions to issues like erosion, storm surge, and flooding.
ShellCast highlights the people and places that have made this recycling, education, and restoration work special and all that we've been learning and doing along the way.
Hop in the boat and remember....STAY SALTY Y'ALL!
Shell to Shore presents: the SHELLCAST
"That's What It's All About" Pete Malinowski
Thanks for coming aboard for the ShellCast's maiden voyage! Our inaugural episode features Pete Malinowski of the Billion Oyster Project.
Pete Malinowski grew up farming oysters with his parents and siblings on the Fishers Island Oyster Farm. His passion for the environment and education led him to the New York Harbor School, where he founded the school’s Aquaculture and Oyster Restoration Programs and spent five years as a teacher. This work at Harbor School led to the development of the Billion Oyster Project in 2014. Since then, the Billion Oyster Project has become one of the world's premier oyster recycling and education organizations to date, working with 19,000 volunteers, 100 NYC Schools, 30,000 students, and 83 restaurants. In our inaugural episode, we talk to Pete about his work and how it has informed and inspired much of what we do through Shell to Shore.
